Preston Markets is inviting residents and visitors to enjoy a programme of free entertainment throughout August, combining unique street performances, live music and specialist markets with the very best of local shopping.
Each Saturday throughout the month, the Preston Markets will come alive with a variety of attractions for shoppers of all ages while supporting Preston's independent traders.
The summer programme begins on Saturday 1 August with a special birthday celebration hosted by Pep Talk coffee shop, marking its first anniversary at Preston Markets. Visitors can look forward to a vibrant mix of coffee, records and a special pop-up appearance from βShow Me The Doughβ who will be serving fresh Neapolital pizza. The party atmosphere promises a great day out for anyone seeking good food, great tunes and a warm community welcome.
On Saturday 8 August, visitors can enjoy Covent Garden-style street entertainment from Chris Cross, whose blend of mind-bending magic, daring escapology and comedy has delighted audiences across the UK. The same day will also see the return of the popular Real Deal Record Fair, offering music lovers the chance to browse and buy vinyl records, CDs and memorabilia from specialist traders.
The entertainment continues on Saturday 15 August with the arrival of Granny Turismo, the world's first and only shopping trolley dance display team. This much-loved street theatre act features seemingly sweet grannies performing hilarious stunts and routines aboard customised shopping trolleys, guaranteeing laughs for the whole family.
On Saturday 22 August, acclaimed entertainer Mark Russell returns to Preston Markets after impressing crowds during the market's 150th anniversary celebrations. Known for his extraordinary penny-farthing riding, juggling, comedy and audience interaction, Mark's unique skills and quick wit make him a must-see attraction.
The month concludes in spectacular style on Saturday 29 August with Fat Cat Brass, a high-energy brass band renowned for performing pop classics on stilts. The band's interactive roaming performances are guaranteed to bring plenty of fun throughout the day.
Visitors can also enjoy free live music every Saturday evening at The Orchard Craft Beer Bar, located beneath Preston Markets' stunning Victorian canopy. From 8pm, talented local bands take to the stage, providing the perfect soundtrack for a relaxed evening with friends and family. Showcasing some of the area's best up-and-coming and established musicians, the weekly performances create a vibrant atmosphere where visitors can enjoy great live music, sample a range of craft beers and soak up the unique character of one of Preston's most distinctive venues.
Alongside the entertainment, Preston Markets offers visitors the opportunity to discover a diverse range of independent traders selling everything from fresh local produce including meat, fish and dairy to, vintage vinyl, cosmetics, real ale and gourmet coffee. With a variety of places to eat and drink, itβs easy to spend an afternoon browsing, shopping and enjoying a bite to eat.
