Preston residents facing financial hardship are being encouraged to apply for support through the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF), a government-funded scheme designed to help people manage unexpected financial emergencies and build longer-term financial resilience.
The fund provides short-term, non-repayable assistance to eligible residents experiencing a financial crisis, financial shock, or those at risk of falling into crisis. Support is available to help people meet essential needs and regain stability following unforeseen circumstances.
The Crisis and Resilience Fund may be able to help residents who are experiencing:
A sudden loss of income or a temporary gap in finances
An emergency or unexpected expense
A physical or mental health emergency
Domestic abuse and the need to leave an unsafe home
A fire, flood or other major disaster
Essential household items breaking down, such as a boiler or fridge
Residents may be eligible to apply if they:
Live in Preston
Are on a low income, regardless of whether they receive benefits
Are experiencing a financial crisis, financial shock, or are at risk of one
Councillor Peter Kelly Cabinet Member for Community and Social Justice said:
"We understand that unexpected events can place significant pressure on household finances. The Crisis and Resilience Fund is there to provide practical support when people need it most, helping residents through difficult times while also supporting longer-term financial stability. We encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible to find out more and apply."
Applications can be submitted online however support is available for those who may struggle with the digital application process. Residents who need help completing an application can contact the dedicated helpline on 01772 906777, where staff will endeavour to answer questions or arrange an appointment to complete the application in person at Preston Town Hall.
